Production Issue with Ejection Seat Cartridge Actuated Devices (CAD) Necessitates Replacement of CAD in some Navy, Marine Corps Aircraft

The Navy recently discovered an issue affecting cartridge actuated devices (CAD) in some fixed-wing aircraft. Affected aircraft include the F/A-18B/C/D Hornet; F/A-18E/F Super Hornet; E/A-18G Growler; and T-45 Goshawk and F-5 Tiger II training aircraft.

The Navy and Marine Corps are collaborating to quickly resolve the issue. The safety of Sailors and Marines is the top priority.

FRCE Teams with Educators to Prepare Students for Careers in Industry

Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) recently hosted a group of Craven County School teachers as part of an externship program focused on preparing students for careers in industry.

Six educators from local schools participated in the externship program that took place at FRCE with two sessions held in June and July. Each session lasted four days and provided teachers with an opportunity to tour the depot, immerse themselves in FRCE’s operations, and meet with personnel working in a wide range of career fields.

Professional growth, personal excellence nets NAVAIR employee lifetime achievement award

Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) International Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Partnerships Director Jeff Heron recently won the American Society of Naval Engineers 2021 Clifford G. Geiger (Naval Logistics Award) for his career-long achievements.

“When you look across [Heron’s] career, there is a sense of breadth and depth to his expertise and experience that speaks volumes,” said NAVAIR Sustainment Group Director Robert Kimble, who presented the award to Heron at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, July 7. “He was willing to look at the system differently.”

Capt. Farnsworth Assumes Command of FRCSW

 

Capt. Marc Farnsworth relieved Capt. Steven Leehe as commanding officer Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) on Friday, July 15, during a change of command ceremony at the FRCSW testline.

Farnsworth previously served as the command’s executive officer.

Following the arrival of the official party and national anthem, Capt. Leehe opened the ceremony with welcoming remarks and introduced the guest speaker, Rear Adm. Joseph Hornbuckle, commander, Fleet Readiness Centers.

FRCSW Repairs Damaged CMV-22 Osprey

Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) recently added another milestone in its history of maintenance and repair services to naval aircraft by completing an unusual repair to the inner skin of a CMV-22 Osprey. 

The right-hand inner composite skin of the $75 million aircraft sustained a six-foot by three-foot crack with other, but minor, composite damage.

To provide a comprehensive repair, MV-22 production manager Moises Edillor said FRCSW removed and replaced the 21-foot by four-foot composite panel.
