FRCE restores historic aircraft to former glory

Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) artisans recently had the rare opportunity to restore a piece of aviation history for display onboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.

As an aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, FRCE’s Aircraft Clean and Paint shops prime and paint each aircraft that passes through the facility. However, artisans had the chance to “travel back in time” as they restored a retired Douglas A-4M Skyhawk – a platform that has not been serviced by the depot in more than 20 years – to its former glory.

FRCE receives the 2024 SECNAV Environmental Award

The Office of the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) recently recognized Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) for its continued commitment to environmental stewardship, awarding the command the 2024 Secretary of the Navy Environmental Award for Sustainability in the Industrial Installation category.

SECNAV Environmental Awards recognize installations, teams and individuals for their accomplishments in innovative and cost-effective environmental management strategies supporting mission readiness.

Engineering the future: FRCE engineers help high schoolers compete in this year’s UUAV competition

With the help of Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) engineers, teams of Eastern North Carolina high school students geared up for the 2024 Ultimate Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UUAV) Competition April 13 in Newport.

FRCE’s STEM Outreach Team joined forces with Craven Community College and North Carolina State University to host the third UUAV Competition at the Crystal Coast Radio Control Club, where teams of high school students entered their unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in hopes of winning.

Small Business Outreach, Depot-Level Sustainment Discussions Finish Out Sea-Air-Space Expo 2024  

The final day of the Sea-Air-Space Expo 2024 began with a question-and-answer session with representatives from the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) and concluded with an overview of NAVAIR’s Fleet Readiness Centers.  

Leadership, Training Advancements, Weapons Development Take Priority at Day Two of Sea-Air-Space Expo 2024

Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) leadership took the stage Tuesday morning at the 2024 Sea-Air-Space Expo to discuss how NAVAIR is “Advancing the Way We Develop, Integrate, Test, Train, Field and Sustain Naval Aviation Capability.”

The panel was moderated by NAVAIR Commander Vice Admiral Carl Chebi. Joining Chebi were Rear Admiral Joe Hornbuckle, Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers; Rear Admiral John Dougherty, Commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD); and Dan Carreño, executive director of Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD).

Advances in Unmanned Systems, Additive Manufacturing, Small Business Collaboration Highlight First Day of Sea-Air-Space 2024

Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) kicked off the 2024 Sea-Air-Space Expo on Monday with panel discussions on manned/unmanned and weapon systems advancements, additive manufacturing success stories and collaborative opportunities for small businesses to join with NAVAIR to aid the warfighter.
