Helicopter Rescue Hoist

The Helicopter Rescue Hoist Trainer is used to train aircrew in helicopter rescue procedures.  It also familiarizes aircrew in the recommended procedures and safety precautions in a water rescue by one of several different rescue devices lowered from a hovering helicopter. The rotor downwash assembly, its associated piping, pump and controls are used to simulate helicopter downwash in actual rescue operations. The device is designed to be weatherproof and intended for permanent installation at the side of either an indoor or outdoor swimming pool.

Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS) Trainer

The METS Trainer (also known as the Helo Dunker) is designed to provide a realistic environment in which trainees can practice procedures for evacuation from ditched aircraft. The METS training system is designed to provide hands-on training in underwater egress from multi-place aircraft. The training is general in nature, but the METS can be configured specific to aircraft type. The METS incorporates the use of exterior cutout exit panels as well as escape exit panels that replicate actual helicopter escape exits.

Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office welcomes new program manager

The Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office (PMA-205) welcomed a new program manager during a ceremony held June 5, 2019 in Patuxent River.

Vice Adm. Michael T. Moran, principal military deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (research, development, and acquisition), served as guest speaker and Mr. Gary Kurtz, Director, Common and Commercial Systems, presided over the change of command where Capt. Lisa Sullivan assumed command of PMA-205 from Capt. Jason Lopez.

Naval Aviation Training Systems program office members receive NAWCAD Commander's Awards

The command recognized significant innovation and technical achievements during its 18th annual Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Commander’s and Innovation Awards at Patuxent River on Jan. 9, 2019.

Awards were given to both individuals and teams, and were selected from over 45 nominations.  Those recognized represent some of NAWCAD’s most innovative and important scientific contributions to naval aviation in 2018.
