Leehe Assumes Command of FRCSW

Capt. Steven Leehe relieved Capt. Anthony Jaramillo as Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) commanding officer on May 14 during ceremonies held at Curtiss Park aboard Naval Air Station North Island.

Capt. Leehe previously served as the command’s executive officer.

In his farewell remarks, Capt. Jaramillo addressed the command’s employees, and spoke of their dedication and work in generating readiness for the Fleet.

FRCSW F/A-18 E-G Components Program to Represent Navy in SECDEF Mason Award

Fleet Readiness Center Southwest’s (FRCSW) F/A-18 Hornet E-G Components Team earned the Chief of Naval Operations nomination to represent the Navy in the 2020 Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Robert T. Mason Award for Depot Maintenance Excellence.

The announcement was made via naval message on May 8.

Operating out of Buildings 378 and 472, the artisans assigned to the components team played a crucial role in meeting Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF) fiscal year (FY) 2019 initiative to achieve 341 mission-ready F/A-18E-F Super Hornets and 93 EA-18G Growlers.

FRCE manufactures cloth face coverings for employees

Fleet Readiness Center East is taking every precaution to ensure the health and well-being of its employees during the coronavirus pandemic by manufacturing cloth face coverings for employees who cannot effectively maintain social distancing because of their work environments.

The Department of Defense has made wearing cloth face coverings mandatory in areas on military installations where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.

Navy takes delivery of final Block II Super Hornet, looks ahead to Block III

Since 2005, F/A-18 Super Hornet Block II aircraft have been rolling off Boeing’s production line and serving as the U.S. Navy’s multi-mission capable workhorse. The service took delivery of the final Block II Super Hornet, closing out a run of 322 one-seater F/A-18Es and 286 two-seated F/A-18Fs, on April 17.

“Aircraft E322 will leave Boeing’s production line and head straight to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 34 based in [Naval Air Station] Oceana,” explained Cmdr. Tyler Tennille, of Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), who oversees Acceptance Testing.

FRCE manufacturing face shields to support local health care workers

In a region that’s no stranger to emergency response, pulling together as a community often helps Eastern North Carolina speed recovery from disasters like hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. Working together can make each individual agency’s efforts stronger. 

That community ethos is why Fleet Readiness Center East’s Engineering Innovation Lab has stepped up to produce medical face shields to supply health care workers in the local area. Starting this week, FRCE will begin delivering 3D printed headbands and face shields to local first responders and medical professionals.

FRCSW Home to Navy’s Premier Calibration Lab

The Navy Primary Standards Laboratory (NPSL), located in Buildings 469 and 379 aboard Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW), is the Navy’s highest echelon for metrology calibration (the science of measurements) and provides technical assistance and training to shore metrology and calibration program personnel.

The NPSL calibration program is compliant to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST establishes measurement standards for a variety of devices from atomic clocks to semiconductors.

Twentieth annual Commander’s Awards celebrate teams, teamwork

NAVAIR Commander Vice Adm. Dean Peters recognized the teams and individuals who best exemplified improving speed and readiness at the twentieth annual NAVAIR Commander’s Award ceremony here March 10.

Finalists were selected from 71 teams and individuals from across the command. During the ceremony, awardees were also recognized for a small business advocacy award and for the Association of Naval Aviation Edward H. Heinemann Award.
