E-6B Airborne Strategic Command, Control and Communications Program Office (PMA-271) receives new leader
NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. –- The E-6B Airborne Strategic Command, Control and Communications Program Office (PMA-271) here welcomed a new program manager during a change-of-command and retirement ceremony July 1 in the atrium of the Rear. Adm. William A. Moffett building here.
Capt. Dana Dewey relieved Capt. Robert Roof, who retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service.
A native of Vienna, Va., Dewey graduated with merit from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. Upon completion of Naval Flight Officer training, he reported to Patrol Squadron 40, Moffett Field, Calif., and Whidbey Island, Wash., where he deployed to the Western Pacific and Caribbean serving as a P-3C mission commander.
Dewey was selected to the Naval Postgraduate School - Naval Test Pilot School (TPS) Cooperative Program earning a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and distinguished TPS graduate honors.
He then served as experimental test flight officer, Force Aircraft Test Squadron, responsible for multiple aircraft developmental test efforts to include the P-3C Anti-Surface Warfare Improvement Program (AIP). He returned to TPS as Airborne Systems Department head and senior instructor.
Dewey next reported to Air Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems Program Office (PMA-264) here, as Research and Development Integrated Program Team lead, responsible for all airborne acoustic system programs.
He then served as the assistant program manager, Systems Engineering, P-8A Poseidon program, in the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft Program Office (PMA-290) here, and was responsible for Critical Design Review (CDR) milestone achievement.
He next served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as senior military advisor for Aircraft Maintenance and Logistics to the Afghan National Army Air Corps, Kabul, Afghanistan.
Dewey served as program integrator, Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems Program Office (PMA-273) here, where he was responsible for the full spectrum of lifecycle acquisition across seven aircraft variants in support of five Air Wings and 750 platforms.
He attended the Defense Acquisition University Executive Program Manager’s Course and the Navy Senior Leader Seminar prior to his current assignment as PMA-271 program manager.
Dewey has more than 2,500 flight hours in 35 different aircraft types. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
