Information security is everyone’s responsibility
from the Office of CIO Communications
Every Department of Navy (DON) military, civilian and contractor employee has a responsibility to protect the availability, integrity and confidentiality of information on DON Information Technology (IT) systems and networks. Although recent events have heightened awareness about attacks from individuals and groups with malicious intent, sometimes individuals compromise information unintentionally.
The protection of our information systems is more important today than ever before in our history. Information security is everyone’s responsibility and requires an all-pervasive approach to promoting a culture of security. Of course, establishing this culture doesn’t happen through an article or a memo, but rather it requires leadership and must be encouraged at all levels of the organization.
NAVAIR employees must understand the need for security and appreciate why it has become such a priority. Simply stated, this means that everyone should consciously consider the security aspects of everything they do.
What should you do if information is compromised?
NAVAIR Information Assurance (IA) Office takes security compromises seriously and encourages NAVAIR personnel to report all IT-security related vulnerabilities and incidents so they can be quickly and appropriately addressed. If you become aware of a security compromise, you must immediately notify your Information Security Manager or IA Site Manager.
