Information Assurance is Your Job, Too!
From the Office of CIO Communications
A key tenet of NAVAIR’s Information Assurance (IA) strategy is the recognition that NAVAIR’s greatest source of strength and protection lies in its workforce. As the Command continues to address unprecedented challenges presented by network intrusions and vulnerabilities, it is important that everyone takes a unified threat management approach to protect our information systems and associated resources. In one way or another, every NAVAIR employee, whether military, civilian or contractor has a critical IA role and responsibility.
Although IA is an inescapable aspect of today’s operational environment, busy schedules and increased workloads can lead to quick decisions with little regard to IA requirements. Employee vigilance and responsiveness should be incorporated into conscious decision-making, but this requires ongoing training, increasing awareness, and ensuring employees understand that observing good IA practices is paramount to maintaining effective security.
Creating and maintaining an information security culture is critical to closing the gap between technology and insider threat. A well-informed work force is security conscious and trained to identify and mitigate problems early on. IA is everyone’s job and this will be an important key to the Navy’s success in achieving and sustaining information superiority in the 21st century.
NAVAIR IA Office takes all security compromises seriously. NAVAIR personnel are required to report all IT-security related vulnerabilities and incidents so they can be quickly and appropriately addressed.
If you become aware of a security compromise, you must immediately notify your Information Assurance Officer (IAO) or your Information Assurance Manager (IAM). If you would like more information, contact your local IAO, IAM, the NAVAIR 7.2.6 Information Assurance office, or the NAVAIR 7.4.1 security office. A list of IA POCs is located on the Office of CIO Web site https://cio.navair.navy.mil.
