Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division recently hosted about 15 members of the Drug Enforcement Administration Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association of Los Angeles during a tour at Point Mugu on Jan. 18.

Twenty-four science, technology, engineering and math teachers from eight different school districts across Ventura County visited Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division facilities in Point Mugu, California, on Jan. 8.

The tour is the first in a series jointly organized by the Ventura County Office of Education and multiple commands at Naval Base Ventura County, including NAWCWD.

Cmdr. Andrew “Lurch” Gephart relieved Cmdr. Elizabeth “Lizard” Somerville as commanding officer of the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 31 during an airborne change of command ceremony over Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division China Lake on Jan. 10.

Rear Adm. Scott Dillon, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division commander, joined China Lake teammates to surprise Lea Clark with a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award during a ceremony Nov. 9.

“Guys, thank you,” Clark said, “I never expected this. The only thing I have to say is that I never accomplished anything by myself; it was always a team effort.”

Robin Locksley, director of flight test engineering for Naval Air Systems Command, surprised Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division’s Mike Laber with a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award Thursday during a meeting in Point Mugu, California.

Laber, now serving as the Point Mugu Sea Range director, spent 25 years working in the Integrated Systems Engineering, Evaluation and Test Department, also known as 5.1, serving as the deputy director before leaving for the PMSR position in August.

Nineteen employees at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division have learned how to lead themselves and others and, on Dec. 4, proved that they can lead teams after completing step 2 of the Professional at all Levels program during a graduation ceremony at China Lake.

The Tactical Engineer Development Program at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division commemorated its fourth graduating class of 24 during a Dec. 11 ceremony at China Lake.

Kevin Meagher, a Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division assistant program manager for Logistics, received the 2017 Admiral Stan Arthur Civilian Logistician of the Year Award during a ceremony in Patuxent River, Maryland on Nov. 29.

 More than 20 Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division employees entered the realm of amateur radio operations Dec. 13, thanks to a week-long class hosted by NAWCWD in Point Mugu, California.

The class, which ended with a Federal Communications Commission test for amateur radio licensing, offered NAWCWD employees a novel approach to radio frequency propagation training, said Brian Hill, lead for electromagnetic maneuver warfare experimentation in the Avionics, Sensors and E*Warfare Department. Hill is also the “innovation ambassador” for the department.
