Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division recognized the 26 members of the fifth graduating class of the Tactical Engineer Development Program during a Jan. 7 ceremony at China Lake.

This fall, the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division’s Electromagnetic Maneuver Warfare Collaboration, Experimentation and Integration Team participated in a three-week exercise demonstrating the plausibility and potential of new forward sensor fusion technology solutions for the nation’s warfighter.

Twenty-four employees of Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake were recognized Dec. 9 for completing the Project Management 101 program; another 20 graduated at Point Mugu on Dec. 3.

These are the latest of more than 550 people who have graduated from the program since 2011. PM101 is a locally developed, command-sponsored program to teach key project management skills and tools. Participants come from across the entire NAWCWD organization and complete 80 hours of training in seven classes.

Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division recognized 20 employees for completing the Project Management 101 program during a ceremony Dec. 3 at Point Mugu; 24 more will graduate in a ceremony at China Lake on Dec. 9.   

PM 101 is a locally developed, command-sponsored program that teaches key project management skills and tools. Participants, who can come from anywhere in the organization, complete 80 hours of training in seven classes. Since 2011, more than 550 people have participated in the program.

Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer visited Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and saw firsthand the earthquake damage to critical infrastructure as well as ongoing fleet support work performed by the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division during a four-hour tour Nov. 17.

“China Lake is a unique facility for the United States Navy and for DoD in general,” Spencer said. “It’s really impressive how the entire team here at China Lake reacted and responded to the conditions that they faced. They continue to do a spectacular job.”

Sixty-two Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division employees graduated from the Professional at all Levels leadership program during ceremonies at China Lake and Point Mugu on Nov. 18 and 19.

PaaL is a command-developed, three-step program that is open to employees at all levels of the organization. Each of the three steps includes professional development classes and a series of sessions with personal and group coaches. The first step of the program focuses on leading self and others. Steps two and three focus on leading teams and organizations.

Burroughs High School students in Ridgecrest, California, got a taste of what STEM can mean for them in the future during the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Day presented by Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division professionals at BHS on Nov. 8.

Students rotated between stations featuring 15-minute, interactive presentations highlighting NAWCWD capabilities. They could make their own ice cream, check out parachute gear, or even find out how fast they can throw a baseball using the same Doppler radar that tracks bullets on the ranges. 

Toufue Chang, director and chief operating officer for the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division Avionics, Sensors, and E*Warfare Department, walked into a regular Monday afternoon meeting ready for an hour of updates from the admiral and executive director.

He walked out with a stunned smile and a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.

One hundred twenty-seven local middle school students got to experience science and engineering first hand at the ninth annual Young Engineers and Scientists! of Ridgecrest conference on Sept. 28 at China Lake.

In a ceremony at China Lake ON Aug. 29 in front of family and friends, Brad Harlow was presented a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award by Rear Adm. Scott Dillon, NAWCWD commander.
