Project management gains 20 new ‘disciples’ at Point Mugu
Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division recognized 20 employees for completing the Project Management 101 program during a ceremony Dec. 3 at Point Mugu; 24 more will graduate in a ceremony at China Lake on Dec. 9.
PM 101 is a locally developed, command-sponsored program that teaches key project management skills and tools. Participants, who can come from anywhere in the organization, complete 80 hours of training in seven classes. Since 2011, more than 550 people have participated in the program.
Keynote speaker Rich Burr, Threat/Targets Systems Department director, helped develop the PM 101 curriculum and remains a champion of the program.
“What do we do at NAWCWD? In general, we manage projects,” Burr said. “Whether it’s a building being constructed, or it’s a new electronic warfare system or target launch or a range event, they’re all projects with costs, schedules, and performance expectations. Project management is a skill set that we wanted to grow and improve at NAWCWD.”
Burr went on to charge graduates to carry their new knowledge back to their branches and teams, calling them disciples of project management.
“We will succeed as a team,” he said. “The goal, ultimately, is to get products and processes completed and out to the fleet, on time, on schedule, and hopefully exceeding expectations in supporting our nation’s warfighters.”
Fiscal Year 2019 Project Management 101 graduates from Point Mugu are: Raquel Aviles, Chelsea Capps, Michael Cloud, Ray Delcher, Kyle Edwards, Ali Ghara, Ryan Hauer, Andrew Lawless, Beckey Maikrzek-Dasis, Antonio Martinez, Josh McDonald, Kalin Morales, Yogesh Patel, Jesus Priestley, Purnendu Sarkar, Vanessa Silva, Jay Skrocki, Justin Walker, David Wood, and Bryan Yazawa.
