Fleet Readiness Center Southeast hosts ceremony for graduating class of apprentices

A small group of family, friends and loved ones gathered on Aug. 4 in Naval Air Station Jacksonville’s ceremonial hangar to celebrate the achievements of Fleet Readiness Center Southeast’s (FRCSE) Trades Apprenticeship Program graduates for the first time in decades.

All five graduating apprentices have completed the painter discipline and were accepted into the program in 2019. Painting, one of seven Trades Apprenticeship concentrations, requires a three-year commitment from apprentices.

Fleet Readiness Center Southeast engineers support STEM by judging local science

A team of engineers from Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) recently volunteered to judge two local science fairs, Clay County Science Fair and Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

An FRCSE team of volunteer judges, including Katie Holland, Elizabeth Nealin, Elijah Lamppin, Dylan Gobaton, Jason Mysliwiec, Justin Haslam, Conner Borgmeier, Stephanie Legg and Lawrence Phung, joined other local professionals from around the community to evaluate the contestants in a variety of STEM areas.

FRCE Teams with Educators to Prepare Students for Careers in Industry

Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) recently hosted a group of Craven County School teachers as part of an externship program focused on preparing students for careers in industry.

Six educators from local schools participated in the externship program that took place at FRCE with two sessions held in June and July. Each session lasted four days and provided teachers with an opportunity to tour the depot, immerse themselves in FRCE’s operations, and meet with personnel working in a wide range of career fields.

FRCE’s F-35 Rapid Response Team makes global impact on flight line readiness

As the number of operational F-35 Lightning II aircraft in the Navy and Marine Corps continues to rise, the number of missions flown increases – and with them, the requirements for maintenance and repair.

The requirement for in-service repair and the need to mend battle damage don’t always come at a convenient time, or in a convenient location – and that’s where the F-35 Rapid Response Team (RRT) comes in. This team of highly skilled, cross-trained aircraft maintenance professionals stands ready to answer the call for support anywhere in the world, at any time.

FRCE moves into future with new helicopter blade balancing system

Rotor blades for the CH-53K King Stallion helicopter that arrive for rework at Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) will be balanced on a new system that will save about $18 million by eliminating the need for building a new testing facility.

Helicopter rotor blades must be balanced to reduce vibration that can place stress on the helicopter’s airframe. At FRCE, this balancing process has traditionally been performed using the facility’s Helicopter Blade Balance Facility, commonly known as a whirl tower, to simulate the blade’s performance in flight.
