Undersea Warfare Training Ranges team wins top Navy award for innovation excellence

The Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office (PMA-205) Undersea Warfare Training Ranges (USWTR) team received the Department of the Navy Acquisition Excellence Award for Innovation Excellence Acquisition Team of the Year Nov. 3 at a ceremony held in the Pentagon.  

The Department of the Navy Acquisition Excellence Awards recognize individuals and teams that have demonstrated excellent performance in the acquisition and sustainment of products and services for the Navy and Marine Corps.

NAVAIR program manager wins top Navy award for Acquisition Professional of the Year

The Specialized and Proven Aircraft program office’s (PMA-226) Principal Deputy Program Manager Andy Wilkinson received the Department of the Navy’s Acquisition Excellence Award for Acquisition Professional of the Year Nov.3 at a ceremony held in the Pentagon.

Navy achieves full operational capability on critical underwater training range

The Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office’s (PMA-205) Ocean Systems Fixed Ranges team recently  achieved full operational capability on the Undersea Warfare Training Ranges Increment I (USWTR INC I) program 13 months ahead of schedule. The USWTR INC I training range supports fleet readiness through realistic training and the tactical development of submarine, surface ship, and aircraft undersea warfare capabilities.

Navy evaluates new crash crane, increasing capability and availability

The Navy’s Common Aviation Support Equipment program office (PMA-260) is currently evaluating Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) on a Crash and Salvage Crane (CSC) at the Aircraft Anechoic Test Facility in Patuxent River.

Electromagnetic waves within the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum are used for communication, radar and information networks aboard ships. The E3 evaluation currently underway in the Aircraft Anechoic Test Facility will determine the CSC’s compatibility with the RF environment.

Navy’s F-5 modernization program completes engineering phase and moves into production and deployment

The Navy’s Specialized and Proven Aircraft program office (PMA-226) F-5N+/F+ Avionics Reconfiguration and Tactical Enhancement/Modernization for Inventory Standardization (ARTEMIS) program successfully reached Milestone C decision June 28, effectively moving into production and deployment. 

Navy demonstrates new, improved breathing device for air crew training

The Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office (PMA-205) recently completed installation and demonstrated the new Mask on Breathing Device (MOBD) trainer July 7 at Patuxent River.

The MOBD trainer allows tactical jet aviators to experience unique breathing-related distress symptoms that may occur during flight, which could lead to potential Physiological Episodes (PE), one of the Navy’s top safety concerns.

Navy successfully completes first flight test of Mission Computer Alternative on the T-45

The Navy’s Air Combat Electronics program office (PMA-209) recently completed the first test flight of the T-45 trainer aircraft’s Mission Computer Alternative (MCA) which is intended to improve readiness for the legacy system.

PMA-209 collaborated with the Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems program office (PMA-273), which manages the T-45 aircraft, and Air Test Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 to execute the March 30 flight at Patuxent River and test out the design replacement for the existing Mission Display Processer.

Navy’s Underwater Construction Team completes critical sustainment at undersea range

The Naval Aviation Training Systems and Ranges program office (PMA-205) in partnership with Navy dive technicians from Underwater Construction Team 2 (UCT-2) completed undersea sustainment on a critical piece of infrastructure at the Southern California Anti-Submarine Warfare Range (SOAR) in March. 

“Sustaining this infrastructure is a no-fail program imperative,” said Capt. Lisa Sullivan, PMA-205 program manager. If they are not viable for future use, the cost impact would be considerable, and the completion dates for the new ranges would be pushed back significantly.”

NAVAIR Commander recognizes the SYSCOM Security Cooperation Office for small business advocacy

NAVAIR Commander Vice Adm. Carl Chebi recognized the SYSCOM Security Cooperation Office (SSCO) with the annual Commander’s Award for small business advocacy April 20 at a ceremony held in Patuxent River. 

Chebi honored the team for embracing small businesses as a key to their ability to provide international partners with the improved speed of product delivery, and the sustainment flexibility that has been mandated by executive leadership and by the ever changing operational environment.
