FRCE provides local students with exciting learning opportunities

The Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) STEM Outreach Team recently visited a local middle school to give students hands-on exposure to tools and techniques they may encounter if they pursue a technical career field.

FRCE visited Grover C. Fields Middle School in New Bern Jan. 17 with two goals: providing engaging educational resources to sixth through eighth grade students in the Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program, and assisting teachers in developing technology-based lessons.

NAVAIR names its 2023 Mentors of the Year

Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) named its 2023 Mentors of the Year as part of its National Mentoring Month observance on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Out of 86 nominations, 11 employees received the honor.

Initiated in 2013, to earn a Mentor of the Year award, peers or mentees nominate mentors through a written submission that identifies how the mentor represented leadership, skill, productivity, and improved morale and workforce retention. NAVAIR recognizes mentors for their ability to align their development and mentoring skills with the mission of naval aviation.

Eight NAVAIR individuals and teams recognized in the Department of the Navy Acquisition Excellence Awards

In a ceremony held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Pentagon Auditorium, eight Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) individuals and teams were honored with Department of the Navy (DON) Acquisition Excellence Awards (AEA). The annual awards recognize individuals and teams who have made exceptional contributions in promoting competition and innovation throughout the acquisition lifecycle for Navy and Marine Corps programs. 

FRCE employees give leave time to help coworker facing medical emergency

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) employees have reached out to help a coworker whose daughter is facing a medical emergency, donating hundreds of hours of annual leave through the federal Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (VLTP) so the employee can be with his family over the holidays.

NAVAIR grounds V-22 fleet

Out of an abundance of caution, following the AFSOC operational stand down, NAVAIR is instituting a grounding bulletin for all V-22 Osprey variants Dec. 6. This decision comes after the V-22 Osprey mishap on Nov. 29, off the shore of Yakushima, Japan.

Preliminary investigation information indicates a potential materiel failure caused the mishap, but the underlying cause of the failure is unknown at this time. While the mishap remains under investigation, we are implementing additional risk mitigation controls to ensure the safety of our service members. 

FRCE names 2023 supervisor of the year

Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) recently recognized an administrative employee with the 2023 Supervisor of the Year award for their dedication to improvement, growth and customer service. 

Over 300 supervisors were nominated for this award across Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), with seven of those coming from FRCE. FRCE’s winner, Travel Branch Head Yolanda Wooten, was presented with the award during a NAVAIR award ceremony held Nov. 16.

A New Flight: The F-16 Arrival at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest

Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) is ushering in a new era of naval aviation as the Navy continues the gradual retirement of its legacy F/A-18A-D series. The renowned F-16 aircraft is poised to become a major program for the FRCSW Depot team’s operations. The F-16, known as the "Fighting Falcon," has been a mainstay in air forces globally since its inception in the 1970s. Designed as a multi-role fighter, its versatility and state-of-the-art avionics have rendered it indispensable in aerial combat and strategic missions.
