The efforts of NAWCTSD's Sailor 2025 Ready Relevant Learning team to convert Navy technical school (A-School) curriculum into interactive courseware is starting to reach the fleet. Operations Specialist (OS) A-School is conducting a pilot course that employs Ready Relevant Learning fundamentals to train new Sailors more efficiently and effectively.

Curriculum in the new OS Rating course has shifted much of the learning away from instructor led PowerPoint-based lessons to integrate approximately 80 percent of the learning in a hands on manner. The pilot course employs new electronic classrooms to deliver the training in a way that encourages students to better retain knowledge.

Commander Naval Education and Training Command, Rear Adm. Kyle Cozad, said the pilot course is going well. "The students love it -- some ask to 'stay late' to continue training."

The Operations Specialist rating was selected as the first to be part of the Sailor 2025 Ready Relevant Learning content conversion effort. The goal of Sailor 2025 is to improve and modernize personnel management and training systems to more effectively recruit, develop, manage, reward, and retain the force of tomorrow. The Ready Relevant Learning content conversion goal is to provide the right training at the right time in the right way.

The Operations Specialist course is on track for final delivery in September 2019.
