Teamwork illuminates Spot 9, new landing site for F-35B

PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 19, 2022) -- A Marine stands by to communicate with a pilot of an F-35B Lightning II attached to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 on the flight deck aboard amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7), Jan. 19. A team from VMX-1, Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23, and Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment Program Office (PMA-251) conducted Spot 9 testing for a future second Unaided Night Landing Spot for the F-35B Lightning II while the Tripoli is underway conducting routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet.
