Lakehurst team members get students excited for STEM careers through STARBASE

Team members from Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) recently volunteered their time to get local fifth-grade students excited about the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as part of the nationwide Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE) program.  

Transition Assistance Program helps service members move into civilian workforce

While joining the civilian workforce can be intimidating for military service members approaching the end of their time with the military, the Transition Assistance Program (TAP), offered by Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, aims to make the process smoother while helping soon-to-be veterans find employment.  

NAWCAD Lakehurst displays capabilities at Power in the Pines Air Show

As thousands of people descended on the McGuire side of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst during the weekend of May 20 for the Power in the Pines Air and Space Open House, teammates from Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) showed a small sample of the work they do as part of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) display during the show.  

NAWCAD LKE Staff Technical Advisor Jeremy Street said the event was a chance for NAWCAD LKE to do some community outreach while also raising the profile of the group’s mission.  

NAWCAD Lakehurst signs educational partnership agreement with Penn State

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst and the Pennsylvania State University signed a new Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA), in effect for the next five years, in recognition of the vital role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) play in the United States’ current as well as future viability and well-being. 

NAWCAD Lakehurst teammates help develop future engineers through robotics program

Long before working at Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE), Adam Cyran and Josh Falk developed their passion for the STEM fields as students with their high school robotics teams. Now, through their work with the NAWCAD LKE Education Outreach Office and the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics program, they help develop future scientists, engineers and mathematicians while raising awareness about NAWCAD’s mission at competitions across the country. 

NAWCAD Lakehurst gives students a view at underwater robotics possibilities in SeaPerch Competition

More than 200 Students from 30 area high schools and middle schools descended on the Neptune Aquatic Center on April 1 for the annual SeaPerch New Jersey/New York Regional Competition.  

SeaPerch is an underwater robotics program that allows students to build an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The NJ/NY regional SeaPerch competition was led by Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst and supported by Navy Talent Acquisition Group Empire State and Neptune High School.  

Lakehurst lab brings environmental challenges inside for equipment testing

Even before encountering an adversary, the warfighter’s equipment is exposed to the impacts of the environment, ranging from the extremes of the desert heat to extreme cold of the frozen arctic tundra to the sunny salty waters in the middle of the ocean. However, thanks to the Environmental Test Lab (ETL) at Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE), these situations can be simulated to ensure mission readiness and address potential issues.  

Lakehurst PATRIOT team wins NISE Outstanding Project Award

The Panoramic Asset Tracking of Real-time Information for the Ouija Tabletop (PATRIOT) team from Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) won the FY22 Naval Innovative Science and Engineering (NISE) Outstanding Project Award for Basic and Applied Research during a ceremony March 23.  

The PATRIOT team was selected out of 81 total Basic and Applied Research projects in the NISE portfolio from across NAWCAD for fiscal year 2022.
