FRCE diverts 239 tons of Florence-related waste

Over the past nine months, the recycling program at Fleet Readiness Center East has processed hundreds of tons of Hurricane Florence-related waste, working to keep as much as possible out of local landfills.

The effort has been hugely successful: Since the storm blew through the region in September, the depot has diverted more than 239 tons of hurricane-related solid waste materials, the weight equivalent of more than 110 large cars.  

COMFRC makes history with multiple award contract

Fleet Readiness Centers (FRC) now have a vehicle to procure and sustain equipment thanks to the funding of a Multiple Award Contract (MAC) for equipment procurement and sustainment, announced May 28th. While this is not the first MAC to be approved, this is an historic one for Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) in its scope and cost savings. The contract provides nearly $250 million in replacement, upgrades, repairs, and maintenance of industrial support equipment at various Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) locations.

Chief petty officer Sindy Johnson, a logistics specialist at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW), is proof that the American dream can come true and exceed expectations.  

“Living in Nicaragua, I remember sitting at a table and thinking that I wanted to be part of that [U.S.] Navy, part of that country,” she said. In 2001, she got her wish, moving to the U.S. at the age of 15. When she turned 18, she joined the Navy, fulfilling the second part of her dream.

COMFRC commander emphasizes aircraft maintainers’ importance to readiness goals

As the community’s most senior officer, Rear Adm. Mike Zarkowski, Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC), understands the impact of a strong mentor during times of change.

The current state of our nation’s readiness and directives from the highest-ranking military officials place a significant load on our entire community, he said to more than 50 Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officers (AMDO) during a mentoring event on April 29 held at Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia, Beach, Virginia.

“You are up to the task,” he added.

Naval Aviation’s new aircraft-on-ground cell expedites readiness

The day starts early for Cmdr. Jeff Brown and team at the Aircraft-on-Ground (AOG) cell as they prepare for their teleconference with squadrons from Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic to check the status of short-term down Navy and Marine Corps aircraft and determine what is needed to get them flying again. They will connect with Strike Fighter Wing Pacific later in the morning.
