Col. Kevin Gross, commanding officer for the Marine Aviation Detachment (MAD) at NAWCWD China Lake, reads “The Little Red Hen” to students at Leapin’ Lizards Child Development Center on April 16 as part of the Week of the Young Child. The National Association for the Education of Young Children established the Week of the Young Child in 1971 to recognize that the early childhood years lay the foundation for success in school as well as later in life. Lt. Col. Christopher Mattei and 1st Sgt. Damon Sanford, both from MAD, also read to local children during the week at the Desert Area Resource and Training Preschool, and Little Deer Durvin’s Family Childcare respectively.
