The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) is less than six months away from transitioning to the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning system (Navy ERP). To ensure a smooth transition, Navy ERP and NAVAIR are working together to prepare training to meet the needs of the NAVAIR workforce.

“Based on lessons learned from Sigma and other Navy ERP pilot training deployments, NAVAIR and the Navy ERP Program Office have developed an effective implementation process that capitalizes on the experience NAVAIR already has,” said Capt. Michael Paul, NAVAIR’s Navy ERP Lead and Sigma Program Manager.

Navy ERP will offer training based on how personnel use the system and, therefore, the type of access they need. Access is described as “roles” in the ERP system. All personnel using Navy ERP will be required to complete Web-based training, which includes a Navy ERP overview, navigation and employee self service.

Basic users are personnel who will use Navy ERP to record their time and attendance and request training. Basic users will receive computer-based training. These personnel will receive an email notice beginning the first week of July describing how to access the Web-based training.

Power users are personnel who use the system extensively beyond time and attendance or training requests and, therefore, need numerous “roles.” These personnel will receive classroom, as well as Web-based, training. Training for power users takes place July 30 through Nov. 30.

One of the core components of the training strategy is the use of NAVAIR trainers to provide local business knowledge.

“By training NAVAIR personnel to lead classes, we will have people on site who understand NAVAIR’s business as well as Navy ERP,” said Paul. “Our in-house experts will be able to relate the Navy ERP system to our personnel and will be well-suited to answer NAVAIR-specific questions.”
