Collective Bargaining Agreement Signed
By Katherine Midyette, Public Affairs Specialist

On November 30, 2006, the National Association of Government Inspectors (NAGI) and the Fleet Readiness Center, Southeast, negotiating teams signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The agreement represents seventeen months of work that started in April 2005. Union President Nick Adams submitted a request to renegotiate because the current contract was due to expire in July 2005. Items of specific interest for both negotiating teams were Flex Time and Credit Hours.

In May 2005, the commanding officer designated Rick Delp, quality assurance director, as management‘s chief negotiator. The management team consisted of Delp, Ron Sonnier and Mel Hamilton. The NAGI team, led by Adams as chief negotiator, included Earl Bishop and Kelvin Troutman.

Both teams attended Interest Based Bargaining training and began negotiations on September 22, 2005. Less than 12 months later, they were finished and the draft agreement was forwarded to the Department of Defense (DoD) for Agency Review. After the review was completed, NAGI ratified the new contract. The contract was signed by the Commanding Officer Captain John Scanlan and Executive Officer Captain Tim Matthews, as well as the negotiating teams, and now will be sent to DoD for approval. Once approved, it will be effective for three years.
