Stewart Makes Wise Safety Decision
Released by the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division China Lake Public Affairs Office--Johnny Stewart from the Supersonic Naval Ordnance Research Track(SNORT) had to make a tough call recently when a BQM ground launch showed out-of-limits readings during pre-launch tests.
Stewart, firing officer for the launch, refused to violate safety operations procedure to proceed and gave the launch team direction to "scrub" the project instead of risking unpredicted results.
Friday, Sept. 1, Weapons Division's Vice Commander, Capt. Mark Storch, presented Stewart with a NAVAIR Safety Coin for his decision to stress safety and prevent a possible mishap.
