Currents named third-place winner

Rear Adm. S. R. Pietropaoli, Chief of Naval Information (CHINFO), recently announced the winners of the 2001 CHINFO Merit Awards. Currents magazine, which is published out of Naval Air Depot Jacksonville’s (NAVAIR Depot Jax) Lead Maintenance Technology Center for the Environment (LMTCE), was named third-place winner in the Publication for a Specific Audience (magazine) category.

The CHINFO Merit Awards Program recognizes excellence in Navy internal print and broadcast media products produced by Navy commands and individuals in some 22 print and 17 broadcast categories. Print media categories include: newspapers, feature, news, sports writing, photography, familygrams, web publications and cruisebooks among others. Broadcast media categories include: radio entertainment program, radio spot production, television information program, television report, and more.

David Brock, NAVAIR Depot Jax materials engineer, is the editor of Currents. “At Currents, we know we’re only as good as the people around us,” said Brock. “Our former editor, Gary Whitfield, needs to be commended for his steady guidance of the magazine over the last few years. Kathi Jones has been instrumental in managing contributions from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command.” According to Brock the contracted consultants have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to edit articles and layout the magazine and to provide insightful articles issue after issue on behalf of the Environmental Protection, Safety and Occupational Health Division. Brock extends thanks to all the Currents readers turned Currents authors. “It’s your stories that make the magazine what it is today. We are all award winners,” added Brock.
