A $2.8 million military construction project, the Component Repair Clean Room, is nearly ready to be used at Naval Air Depot North Island. NADEP North Island Commanding Officer Capt. Pete Laszcz cut the ribbon last month opening the 8,500 square foot facility in Building 472.
The room has temperature, humidity and particulate controls to perform Depot level maintenance on various airframe hydraulic components. “The controlled environment will improve components’ reliability, enhance safety of flight and ultimately improve fleet readiness,” Laszcz said.
The project’s location and concept of disassembly, assembly and test of the hydraulics in a consolidated facility was a Business Process Reengineering project. A Depot team of Industrial Planning, Code 6.3.3, and Production Personnel, Code 6.2.3.3, developed the room. The major Component Production contributors included Frank Nothnagel, Penny Cameron, Chuck Cameron, Dennis Weddle, and Mark Hagedorn. Industrial Planning contributors are Bob Wilson, Guy Harman, Tim Thai, Russell Inouye, Ken Plunkett, George Fernandez, Ken Ramos, and Don Marano.
Soltek Pacific, a San Diego construction contractor, received the contract to design and build the facility. Personnel from the Office of the Assistant Resident Officer In Charge of Construction (ROICC) at the Southwest Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, administered the contract.
Personnel from Component Production and Industrial Planning are relocating the test equipment from Building 379.
