NADEP JAX paints the town

On April 17, 2002, Naval Air Depot Jacksonville (NADEP JAX) military members spent the day painting the town. Every year the City of Jacksonville selects approximately 40 houses in the local community for the “Paint The Town” program. The group worked together sweeping debris off of the roof, scrapping loose paint, priming bare wood, and caulking windows and trim in preparation for new paint. Together they prepared two houses that will be painted later this month. The program was designed as part of the Mayor’s Intensive Care Neighborhood by helping families in need of assistance with maintaining the exterior of their home.

The project coordinator is always glad to see the military come out to the job sites. Every year the military provides enough volunteers to accomplish about 80 percent of the work needed. “Some of the homeowners are a little older and can’t really do a lot of this work themselves. So, we are glad to come out here and help them out. We try to do it a couple of times a year. Whenever they call for us. We are always here to help,” said AM1 John Jensvold, NADEP P-3 Program Petty Officer.

Today, more than ever, we need to make our community a better place in which to live. We applaud those who take the time to share their skills and abilities. Those who believe they can make a difference in the lives of others contribute their special talents and efforts to others in need.
