NADEP JAX recognized for excellence in employee development

On February 21, 2002, the University of North Florida (UNF) presented its second annual Excellence in Training and Employee Development Awards. During this ceremony, the Training Management Office at the Naval Air Depot Jacksonville (NADEP JAX) won the 2002 award for Excellence in Employee Development. Each year UNF recognizes individuals, teams, and organizations whose outstanding achievements have significantly advanced workplace learning and performance.

NADEP JAX is committed to employee development and training, implementing its Training Management Office in 1997. The Depot’s Training Management System (TMS) is a fully automated, online system that serves as the focal point for the management of all aspects of employee development. Employee development and growth is driven by the foundation of the TMS and the development of the Training Requirement Worksheet (TRW). The TRW itemizes the entire gamut of unique training requirements for over 120 different specialized career fields at the Depot. The information is then parlayed in TMS to the Individual Development Plan where the supervisor and employee agree on a tailor-made training program for each year. This system has been very successful in promoting new skill acquisition, task certification, training completion records, and other key functions to continuously improving employee’s skill levels while keeping them abreast of leading-edge technology.

Located on more than 100 acres along the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Fla., and employing over 3,800 employees, NADEP JAX is one of the United States Navy’s premier in-depth maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification facilities. This is where specialized and highly trained artisans perform an enormous array of technical, operational, and functional tasks on some of the most sophisticated and complex aircraft and weapons system in the military inventory. The Depot has developed a system to monitor and ensure that its employees receive the necessary and meaningful training required.
