Archived Body

The Naval Air Systems Command is now accepting nominations for the 2001 Commander's Awards until March 1. All NAVAIR teams are eligible, including technical and support teams. Nomination packages and information on the nomination process are available at http://hro.navair.navy.mil under the "Awards" button or from Donna Perrie at 301-342-6863 or DSN 342-6863.

Vice Adm. Joe Dyer, NAVAIR commander, created the award last year in recognition of the vital role that teams and teamwork play within the Naval Air Systems Command and as part of the broader goal to show appreciation for all teammates.

Dyer will formally recognize the winning teams with the Commander's Award that epitomizes support of the strategic goals in six categories:

· Supporting our People -- Implementing most effective strategies to improve the work force and work climate

· Supporting the Warfighter -- Improving the capability of the Warfighter, the ultimate customer

· Resources and Affordability Achievement-- Optimizing resources

· Process Improvement - Providing the best service to the fleet

· Business Strategy Achievement - Contributing to best business strategy

· Special Achievement - Creating NAVAIR efficiencies and effectiveness not defined by other categories

Nominations may be submitted by the team leader or by any member of the team at the direction of the team leader. An original and four copies of the nomination package are required. Your local award routing procedures should be followed for submission of nominations.

Tips for completing nomination packages are as follows:

· Statements should be supported by facts and verifiable information.

· Acronyms and terminology specific to the team's submission should be spelled out and fully defined.

· Quantifiable metrics, such as savings and outcome measures, are especially desired.

· The nomination package must NOT contain any classified information.

· Include name, series, grade, military/civilian/contractor, (if military, include service/rank), competency/organization, command/business unit, DSN and commercial telephone numbers.

· Identify the team leader.

· Include any administrative staff members who supported the team, including secretaries.

· Ensure names of team members are reflected as they should appear on certificates, if chosen as winner.

More than 100 teams competed for the last year's Commander's Awards. The winner's names are displayed in the atrium of the Moffett Building. This year's award winners will be recognized in Spring 2002, and their names will be added to the display.
