Employee suggestion adopted throughout the Fleet

Carl Gay, Aircraft Engine Repairer, Naval Air Depot, Jacksonville (NADEP JAX), Fla. recently received recognition through the Depot’s Valuable Ideas Save Investments Of NADEP (VISION) program. Gay noticed that the cable assembly for the F110-GE-400 engine had chaffed in six out of twelve engines issued in 2001, thus failing quality inspections. The cable clamp configurations were causing contact between the throttle cable and the electrical cable bracket, thus chaffing occurred penetrating the outer casing and into the internal slide mechanism.

To alleviate the chaffing condition, Gay suggested that the throttle control cable bracket be repositioned to prevent chaffing damage. This minor, but significant, modification will minimize future damage, thus reducing the need to repair or replace the throttle control cable. As a result of this idea, a rapid action change has been sent throughout the Fleet to correct the problem of the chaffing condition on the throttle cable.

Capt. Karl Yeakel, Commanding Officer, NADEP JAX presented Gay with the VISION award and applauded his effort to improve quality, productivity, and economy at NADEP JAX.
