Artisan coaches softball team to Nationals

CORONADO, Calif. - Russell Timothy took his team all the way to the Nationals in his first year as head coach for a girls’ softball team. Timothy, Code 6.2.1, was voted head coach of the Clairmont Bobby Sox, an All-Star team for girls aged 13 and younger.

Timothy coached the team to an 18-0 record this season that advanced them to the district tournament where the girls went undefeated. They captured first place in the Regionals, which earned them a slot in the Nationals in Pico Rivera (Los Angeles). The 12 girls fell a little short in the Nationals, but they represented San Diego with pride and professionalism.

“The girls worked hard as a team and played their best. I’m proud of their success. I’m proud to be their coach, and they will always be No. 1 with me and their parents,” said Timothy, who was the team’s assistant coach last year. His daughter plays three positions on the team: pitcher, catcher and third base.

Timothy, a sheet metal mechanic, has 28 years’ experience working for Naval Air Depot North Island. He is assigned to the Field Service Team at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif.
