Depot mentors give groundhogs taste of real world
Instrument Mechanic Joe Enkey (right) explains some basic electronics to Havelock High School student Rob Catron in the Instruments Shop of the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Depot Cherry Point. Catron was one of 15 area students who visited the depot recently to participate in National Groundhog Job Shadow Day 2003. After being welcomed aboard by Executive Officer Col John Gumbel, the student “groundhogs” were paired with depot mentors from a variety of shops. The mentors took time to involve the students in their normal workdays and explained the nature of the work they do. The experience was designed to give the students a taste of the real world and help them appreciate what certain career fields are like. In addition to Enkey, the depot mentors were Keith Alligood, Terry Butch, Jennifer Dudley, Capt Allen Gilbert, Capt Colleen Grimm, John Hardebeck, Josh Honaker, Kendall Knight, Jim Lewis, Mark Meno, Todd Price, Todd Quist, Harold Randle, and Cindy Tumas.
