Escort training for Little Petroglyph Canyon at NAVAIR Naval Air Weapons Station has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 5.

Delay of the training is due to recent rain, snow and ice conditions affecting the dirt roads, leading to the canyon.

March 21 is the deadline for the required registration and space is limited. Those who registered for the March 8 class need not re-register.

The escort training will include two segments. A classroom session, covering security and environmental concerns plus administrative procedures from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Maturango Museum, 100 E. Las Flores Ave. in Ridgecrest. This will be followed by a field visit to Little Petroglyph Canyon. The training will be complete by 4 p.m.

All tours to Little Petroglyph Canyon require at least two command-approved guides – people who have completed the petroglyph escort training class and who are on the active roster. It is the guides’ responsibility to assist the Navy in protecting the valuable historical resource, as well as the Station’s security.
