NAVAIR Depot Jacksonville military recognized

On December 16, 2002, Commanding Officer (CO) Capt. Karl E. Yeakel, Naval Air (NAVAIR) Depot Jacksonville, presented the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Lt. Joseph S. Berrios for professional achievement while assigned as Quality Control Inspector for the Depot from July 2001 to November 2002. Tireless efforts in performing preparatory audits for the Naval Air Systems Command Inspector General Inspection contributed significantly to the Depot’s overall passing grade and numerous laudatory comments. During a field-testing of the Joint Services Chemical Detector, Berrios discovered an anomaly in the testing display pattern that led a corrective action to an algorithm in the detector, saving the Department of Defense over one million dollars. During a management planning meeting for the development of workload applications, he identified critical problems that would have been incompatible to the Depot’s software applications and was solely responsible for a cost avoidance of over one hundred thousand dollars in acquisition and labor. These actions and Berrios’ keen attention to detail, unrelenting perseverance and steadfast devotion to duty reflected credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
