At the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Depot Cherry Point, the Avionics Department’s C-130 avionics senior engineer has been selected as a NAVAIR Associate Fellow. Randall Dunn was recognized as an individual who consistently demonstrates exceptional engineering and scientific talents.

“I was very surprised to learn about my selection,” Dunn said, “and it certainly is an honor to be part of this program.”

Instituted in 2000, the NAVAIR Fellows Program is a peer-oriented technical recognition program for the most experienced and talented engineers and scientists who have made major contributions to naval aviation. It is sponsored by the Research and Engineering Competency (AIR-4.0) and is open to civilian employees from all competencies. Dunn was inducted into the program during a recent ceremony at the depot.

NAVAIR Depot Cherry Point provides maintenance, engineering, and logistics support on a variety of aircraft, engines, and components for all branches of the U.S. armed forces. It is the only source of repair within the continental United States for many jet and rotary wing engines and is the Navy’s center of excellence for rotary wing aircraft. NAVAIR provides advanced warfare technology through the efforts of a seamless, integrated, worldwide network of aviation technology experts.

Dunn has been working at the depot for 20 years, and this prestigious honor places him in the top three percent of NAVAIR’s scientists and engineers. He was one of 68 employees selected from around NAVAIR and the only selectee from the depot. His selection was based in part on his original thinking and foresight and his demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems.
