New Director of Operations on board

CHERRY POINT, N.C.—LtCol. Joseph A. Mauney
recently arrived as the Naval Aviation Depot’s new Director of Operations (6.0B). He replaces LtCol. Robert E. Carney, who is retiring.
Prior to his arrival here, LtCol. Mauney served as Helicopter Engineering & Logistics Class Desk for Commander, U.S. Naval Air Forces, Atlantic Fleet.
LtCol. Mauney graduated from Belmont Abbey College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation in 1983, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He completed helicopter training and was designated a Naval Aviator in September 1985.
LtCol. Mauney has had various assignments throughout his career. Designated as a
CH-46E helicopter pilot, he has been assigned to three different Fleet Marine Force Squadrons. His duties have primarily been within the squadron organic maintenance department, from Line Division OIC, Quality Assurance Officer, to Maintenance Officer. He is a designated Aviation Safety Officer. LtCol. Mauney has also served outside the aviation community. He was assigned to Second Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion as the Headquarters & Service Company CO and Air Officer/Fire Support Coordinator. He has participated in three Landing Force Sixth Fleet Mediterranean deployments. His personal military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
In commenting about his new position, LtCol. Mauney said, “I’m very impressed with the knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm displayed by the employees I’ve had the privilege to meet. I’m proud to be a part of this team. I look forward to meeting the challenges ahead and continuing NADEP Cherry Point’s tradition of Service to the Fleet.”
