International programs symposium set for Sept. 12

Archived Body

The Naval Air Systems Command International Programs Department (AIR-1.4), headed by Capt. Michael J. Dougherty, is presenting a one-day symposium featuring prominent speakers and interactive panel-type discussions on a wide range of topics.

The symposium will be held Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Solomons Island.

This symposium is for the naval aviation international programs community, including civil service, military and industry personnel.

The featured luncheon speaker is Edward W. Ross, director of Middle East, Asia, and North Africa for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. He will address foreign military sales (FMS) reinvention initiatives and security assistance opportunities.

In addition to FMS reinvention, subjects covered during the course of the day include letter of offer and acceptance process and hybrid FMS/direct commercial sales cases.

The objective of the symposium is to educate the naval aviation international programs community and foster professional networking through the exchange of ideas and concepts. This is the second of a series of symposiums that will keep the naval aviation international programs community in touch with evolving post cold war military assistance requirements and provide a complementary role with the domestic acquisition community as the revolutions in military and business affairs continue.

Those attending will be given training credit. The nomination deadline is Sept. 7. Civilian and military personnel should use course code #498882.

Civil service and military nominations must be submitted through the use of the initial training request form, NDW-NAWCAD12410/28 and submitted to the Education, Development and Training Division via the Training Information System (TIPS). Please note that government employees should enter -0- in the cost block in TIPS. The International Programs Department will provide funding separately for government employees to cover the symposium cost.

Industry personnel nominations are required to be made by letter addressed to the program coordinator and faxed to 301-342-4523. Once the nominee receives a notification of seat availability, confirmation of acceptance will be guaranteed upon receipt of check by Sept. 10, made payable to Booz-Allen & Hamilton in the amount of $200. The check must be sent directly to Marge Holcomb, program coordinator, at the Employee Development Center, Building 2189.
