Information Exchange opens dialogue on re-engineering impacts
Submitted by the NAVAIR Public Affairs Office
The Naval Aviation Systems TEAM began a series of work force leadership exchanges called Re-engineering: Feedback 2000 Jan. 13 in the Moffett Building here.
The information exchange format provided an open house forum for co-workers to talk about specific changes resulting from business process re-engineering and to view demonstrations of new electronic tools that will improve efficiency.
A steady flow of TEAM members viewed the eight display stations and interacted one-on-one with senior leaders and teammates responsible for implementing the more than 80 changes to the command's six core business areas, called core processes.
"I really enjoyed the chance to talk with people one-on-one about the changes taking place around the entire NAVAIR TEAM," said Dr. Allan Somoroff, NAVAIR deputy commander. "Leaders and re-engineering teams alike are depending on this type of feedback to improve the TEAM's responsiveness to the warfighter."
Employees had the opportunity to explore any of the 80-plus specific changes the teams are proposing or beginning to execute. Specific items include the following:
combining operational testing and developmental testing
creating a paperless flight clearance system
linking labs for network centric warfare
using a central, computerized pool to report and share government-furnished T&E equipment
forming a software development competency
combining redundant test facilities
moving to electronic technical publications and an online tech pub library
setting standard practices for in-service engineering and logistics
making science and technology projects more relevant
Info exchange attendees provided feedback and insightful questions during the event such as:
I found the one-on-one dialogue to be most useful.
With ERP, I realize that E-2C is the prototype program. As the system is employed, I would like to see how it works. Could a demo be provided during different stages?
I found the Test and Evaluation explanation to be most useful. Thanks for the enlightenment.
If a person is a program analyst versus financial analyst, will they still be put in the new Business/Financial Competency?
Other senior leaders will host similar information exchanges at several NAVAIR sites during the next few months.
