Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force (COMOPTEVFOR) recently declared the Navy's Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM-ER) operationally suitable and operationally effective in a final report out.
Operational testing was conducted by an independent test team from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9) at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California. In this round of testing which began in November 1999, SLAM-ER scored direct hits in four out of four flight tests. Testing was completed Jan. 27.
"SLAM-ER brings to the warrior a weapon with unmatched precision and lethality," said Capt. A.J. Benn, SLAM-ER program manager. "It does so while keeping the warfighter safe from harm and at an affordable price."
Currently, the Boeing Company, St. Louis, Missouri is under contract to produce 187 SLAM-ER missiles. The program remains on-track for the final DOT&E report and a full-rate production milestone III decision in May.
The SLAM-ER program is managed by the Program Executive Office for Cruise Missiles and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (PEO (CU)). To learn more about PEO (CU), log on to the Web site at www.peocu.js.mil.
