NAVAIR awards radar contracts
NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, Patuxent River, MD – The Naval Air Systems Command awarded two contracts June 20 for a synthetic aperture radar study and a demonstration.
The contracts were awarded under Broad Agency Announcement N00019-01-R-0029 Navy Tactical Reconnaissance/Precision Targeting Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).
A Lockheed-Martin/Elta team was awarded $672,000 for an F/A-18 Shared Airborne Reconnaissance Pod SAR integration study.
A team comprised of Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin and Bae personnel was awarded $5.8 million for an F-14 SAR demonstration. This team will fly a SAR-equipped F/A-18 SHARP pod on an F-14 in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002.
Building on the successful F-14 demo of an SAR pod in October 2000, these activities provide risk reduction for future Navy strike fighter through-the-weather reconnaissance and targeting programs.
