NAVAL AIR STATION NORTH ISLAND, CA - Naval Air Systems Command aerospace engineer Gregory Kerr was presented the 2016 Joey Miller Engineering Excellence Award during ceremonies Sept. 6 in the Building 325 conference room aboard Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW).

E-2/C-2 Airborne Tactical Data System Program Office (PMA-231) Program Manager Capt. Keith Hash presented the award to Kerr.

Kerr, who is the E-2/C-2 platform landing gear lead and a member of the FRCSW Fleet Support Team, was selected for the award for improving FRCSW production quality and evaluating serviceable components to create full landing gear assemblies to alleviate backorders to the fleet.

He was also recognized for his work in conjunction with Northrop Grumman and United Technologies Corp. Aerospace Systems to redesign forged crucial landing gear parts to improve production quality and output, and reduced turn around time.

The Joey Miller Engineering Excellence Award is presented annually to recognize superior leadership and dedication to the warfighter.

The award was established 15 years ago in honor Lt. Cmdr. Joey Miller, who served as a P-3 pilot. As a civilian, he worked as an aeronautical engineer and product team lead within the PMA-231 program office until his death in 2003.
