NAWCWD opens newly refurbished Peterson Lab at Point Mugu
NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER WEAPONS DIVISION, POINT MUGU, Calif. - Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division hosted a ribbon cutting for the Ralph H. Peterson Laboratory Reprogramming Center West at Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu, California, on April 5.
Peterson Laboratory unused since 2009 and had suffered some damage when waves breached the retaining wall behind the facility during winter storms.
In 2016, Naval Facilities Command Southwest awarded a $28 million contract to refurbish the building, which is more affordable than it would have been to demolish and build a new facility. The facility now boasts approximately 40,000 square feet of modernized space, split evenly between engineering administrative and laboratory spaces.
“Our technical workforce needs and now have the most modern facilities possible to ensure the warfighter has a decisive advantage to fight and win,” said Dr. Ron Smiley, Naval Air Systems Command’s national director for Avionics, Sensors and E*Warfare. “By ensuring our teams have adequate, modern spaces to work together, we help them maintain and expand that advantage every day.
