PHOTO RELEASE: Navy team enhances sub-hunting technologies, recognized by top brass
NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. -- The Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft Multi-static Active Coherent (MAC) Integrated Product Team (IPT) accepted the 2014 Ron Kiss Maritime Technology Transition Award Nov. 18 at a ceremony in Washington.
Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition Sean Stackley, and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson recognized the team for its rapid development and transition of anti-submarine warfare technologies in response to urgent fleet requirements.
The MAC IPT developed enhanced acoustic and sensor technologies that greatly increased the search capability of sonobuoys. Fielded on the P-3C Orion in July 2014 and the P-8A Poseidon in March 2015, the team’s development, training and fielding of MAC ensures Sailors are prepared in all ocean environments against all types of subsurface threats.
