NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – An aviation electronics technician assigned to AIR 6.8 Aviation Readiness and Resource Analysis Department and a command yeoman assigned to Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Programs (PMA-281) earned Senior and Junior Sailor of the Quarter honors, respectively, for the second quarter of fiscal year 2015.

During a ceremony May 21 at the Rear Adm. William A. Moffett building on Pax River, Vice Adm. David A. Dunaway, NAVAIR commander, recognized the personal and professional achievements of Petty Officer 1st Class Markus L. McCraney and Petty Officer 3rd Class Calli N. Burke.

McCraney, who works in the Aeronautical Time Cycle Management (ACTM)/ Configuration Management Information System program, located  in the Logistics and Industrial Complex (LIC) at Pax River, earned Senior Sailor honors for his “outstanding administrative skill, leadership and a remarkably positive attitude while fulfilling his duties as an ACTM repository analyst,” according to the letter of commendation. His efforts during the quarter led to an avoidance of more than $1.9 million in repair costs.

“I’m proud to carry on the legacy of my father (former Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark McCraney),” McCraney said. “My hope is that one day my child – or children - will continue it, too.”

Junior Sailor of the Quarter, Burke, who works at the Navy Washington Planning Center (WPC), earned the honors for her work as the command pay/personnel administrative support system coordinator and for her preparations for and execution of the center’s cyber security inspection.

“YN3 Burke's strong work ethic, can-do attitude and tireless efforts have had an immediate and positive impact on the mission success of the WPC,” said Theresa M. Holeski, PMA-281 WPC director.  “From the moment she checked in, she quickly integrated herself into a highly diverse team. She hit the ground running and has not come up for air.”

Burke credits her husband’s service in the Army for inspiring her to enlist.

“I have enjoyed my short time in the Navy tremendously, and it has helped me to learn new things and grow into a stronger person.”

In his remarks during the ceremony, Vice Adm. Dunaway praised the two Sailors for their hard work, problem solving skills and dedication.

“Sailors like AT1 McCraney and YN3 Burke exemplify what NAVAIR is about," he said. “People are our strongest asset at NAVAIR. The highly professional military and civilian workforce makes our organization top notch. These two Sailors exemplify our spirit of innovation and leadership.”
