NAWCWD attends NBVC Boots on the Ground
CHINA LAKE, Calif. – Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) commander Rear Adm. Mat Winter, vice commander Capt. Harry Dunbrack and executive director Scott O’Neil participated in the Naval Base Ventura County “Boots on the Ground” event Aug. 18.
Mike Warriner, deputy director of Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE), facilitated event that was attended by Vice Adm. Allen G. Myers, commander, Naval Air Forces and commander Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Vice Adm. David Architzel, commander, Naval Air Systems Command; Rear Adm. William G. Sizemore II, chief of Naval Air Training; Rear Adm. Mathias W. Winter, commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, and assistant commander for Test and Evaluation, Naval Air Systems Command; Rear Adm. (Select) Cindy L. "CJ" Jaynes, U.S. Navy Naval Air Systems Command, and assistant commander, Logistics and Industrial Operations; and Rear Adm. (Select) John King, Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support. The Marine Corps was represented by Brig. Gen. Gregg Sturdevant.
The day-long event began at the Point Mugu Theater with local commanding officers describing to visiting admirals the best practices they’ve developed and the challenges they’re facing. As the economy tightens, aviation commands are seeking ways to carry out their missions more efficiently and more effectively.
In his opening remarks Myers stated, “Everyone now has the chance to show the senior level their successes — what works — and to show us what needs to be fixed — what the barriers and roadblocks are.”
“We have a solid Navy-Marine Corps team,” added Architzel. “Naval aviation is strong and will get stronger. We can make it much stronger by having this kind of interaction.”
Warriner emphasized that the biggest challenge facing today’s Navy is to create more efficiencies through collaboration.

Allen Blaxton, commanding officer, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment, Point Mugu; Capt. Aaron Cudnohufsky and Capt. Timothy Morey, Naval Test Wing Pacific Home; Cmdr. John Rousseau, NAWCWD Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 30; Cmdr. Christopher McAnally, officer-in-charge, Logistics Support Squadron (VR) 55, and Capt. Matthew Danehy, commander Airborne Command Control and Logistics Wing.
