CHINA LAKE, Calif., –Don Summer received a 35-year certificate and pin in a presentation ceremony held Sep. 20, that acknowledged more than three decades of honorable and faithful government service. Summer worked for the Department of the Navy in the Human Resources (HR) arena for 35 years. He spent 33 years at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) in a variety of critical roles and two years as an HR Information Systems expert on Alternate Personnel Systems in San Antonio, Texas.

In June 1976, after touring several of the Business Professional organizations as an administrative junior professional, Summer accepted a position in the HR department at NAWCWD. He served in several key roles throughout his career including HR advisor, head of Personnel Services Division, head of HR Information Systems Division, NAWCWD Demo project manager, and chief of Employment Programs. Summer currently serves as the S&T Reinvention Laboratory HR Systems deputy program manager for NAVAIR.

Summer was pivotal in the successful implementation, execution, and transition out of NSPS at both the NAVAIR as well as Navy and Department of Defense levels. He played a critical design role in the current STRL systems for NAVAIR and was a key advisor to the STRL performance management Information Technology solutions currently in use at Aviation Division and Weapons Division.

For his significant contributions and service to the Department of Navy, NAVAIR and NAWCWD, Summer received the Navy’s top civilian honors – the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award and the Navy Superior Civilian Service award
