Two SH-60F Search and Rescue helicopters from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron THREE ONE (VX-31) based at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Calif. will be conducting fire fighting training on July 19 and/or 20 between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. near the north central portion of Lake Isabella near Rocky Point Cove. The purpose of the training is to build pilot and crew proficiency in heliborne fire fighting capabilities for military missions and other fire fighting efforts related to the R-2508 military operating airspace complex.

Lake Isabella was chosen as the training site based on location, size, depth of water and ease of conducting training with minimal impact on local interests. Site location was coordinated with, and approved by, the Lake Isabella Parks and Recreation Department.

Aircraft will use suspended buckets to conduct water pick-ups and precision water drop-offs using “racetrack” patterns in the depicted zone. Additionally, a Navy or U.S. Forest Service boat may provide water escort duty. Please alert all vessels and individuals to keep well clear of the zone while water escort and helicopter operations are being conducted.
