By NAVAIR Public Affairs Office

More than 300 NAVAIR personnel are currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their names are listed alphabetically by site at the end of this article.

“We need to let them know we are thinking of them – that they haven’t been forgotten,” said RDML Michael Bachmann, NAVAIR Vice Commander.

Mail from family members and loved ones to deployed service members continues to be encouraged by the Department of Defense. However, the general public is urged not to send unsolicited mail, care packages or donations to deployed service members. There are a number of other ways the general public can send a holiday greeting or a message of support for the New Year, though.

The following Web sites offer opportunities to show support (including greeting cards, virtual Thank You cards and calling card donations) and to help troops stay in contact with loved ones:

· Defend America – http://www.defendamerica.mil/support_troops.html
· Operation USO Care Package – http://www.usocares.org/
· Operation Dear Abby e-mail to Navy personnel – http://anyservicemember.navy.mil

There are many other ways by which you can show your support. The following ideas and Web sites come from the Department of the Navy:
· Visit Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals and nursing homes. Volunteer your services to honor veterans who served in past conflicts. The Department of Veterans Affairs Web site is http://www.va.gov
· Donate a calling card to help keep service members in touch with their families at Operation Uplink, http://www.operationuplink.org/
· Make a donation to the Navy/Marine Relief Society at http://nmcrs.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=donations_index
· Support the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services at http://www.redcross.org/services/afes/
· Support families whose loved ones are being treated at military and VA hospitals trough a donation to the Fisher House at http://www.fisherhouse.org
· Reach out to military families in your community, especially those with a loved one deployed.

During this holiday season, and as the New Year begins, remember those NAVAIR colleagues listed below who are serving away from home at this time.
