In memory of former NAWCWD employee, Dan Garcia, Rear Adm. Mark Skinner presented a Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award to Dan's wife, Mary, in honor of her late husband. In addition, she received an encased American flag.

Garcia passed away unexpectedly in mid-July. His branch head, Larry Stephens, described Dan as a person with integrity, compassion, humor, and just a great guy to have around. “He liked to think of himself as a technologist, and he excelled as a technologist. One of his strong points was that he had a great imagination and could think out of the box. He truly was an inventor, contributor, and a creative and talented leader. We miss him a lot.”
