On-site team supports first command to transition to Navy ERP

Archived Body

The Naval Air Systems Command will be the first to receive support from the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) on-site support teams.

The temporary teams will work from each major NAVAIR site, including Patuxent River, through March 2008 to ease the command’s transition to the Navy-wide business and financial management system.

In providing "over-the-shoulder support," the teams will help familiarize users of the system with new functions and capability, identify any risks to a seamless transition and help resolve issues with the NAVAIR’s transition to the system.

"With on-site support, we’re given the opportunity to get out there, personally meet our site leads, and understand first-hand how they do business," said Kevin James, Navy ERP on-site support coordinator for the western United States.

"Our goal is to understand each command’s protocols and practices and also ensure they understand and take advantage of the efficiencies Navy ERP will bring to the table," he added.

Select members of the team will lead Train the Trainer 201 classes this month, teaching NAVAIR personnel to become Navy ERP in-house instructors for NAVAIR "power users" who will use the system’s advanced features.

Additional team members will work with the command’s site implementation teams on training, data migration and similar preparation tasks. The team will supplement the NAVY ERP help desk and gather information needed to resolve command-specific issues.

Beginning Oct. 1, NAVY ERP on-site support team members will visit work spaces to be easily accessible to supervisors and managers in need of help. The teams will gradually downsize from December to March.
