Test flight results in sonic booms
Archived Body
PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, MD—An F/A-18 Hornet aircraft flying a test flight Thursday afternoon generated several sonic booms that could be heard locally.
The particular test event, which involved improving the capabilities of the aircraft for pilots in the fleet, required supersonic flight.
The aircraft was operating within the Patuxent River restricted airspace and taking precautions to minimize the effect of the sonic booms over populated areas.
NAS Patuxent River will continue to take measures to lessen the impact on the community of testing and training activities.
