NAVAIR Depot Jacksonville wins NAVAIR Aviation Safety Award
By Joe Walker, Public Affairs Specialist
For the fifth time in seven years, Naval Air (NAVAIR) Depot, Jacksonville has been selected as the winner of the Naval Air System Command (NAVAIR) CY 2005 Aviation Safety Award.
Vice Admiral Wally Massenburg, Commander, Naval Air Systems Command, applauded the Command’s initiative, professionalism, and resourcefulness in enhancing mission readiness.
From the top down, the safe execution of our mission is our number one priority. The Depot is proud to have closed out CY05 with a remarkable 39 years and 27,969.5 flight hours of Class A/B mishap-free flying.
While immensely proud of this remarkable accomplishment, the Depot remains committed to staying focused on the future, rather than the past. The military and civilians alike at NAVAIR Depot Jacksonville understand that regardless of all the accomplishments, accolades, and recognition afforded to this vibrant workforce, the outstanding work that they perform can all be quickly erased with a single mishap.
Lieutenant Pete Amendolare, Depot Aviation Safety Officer, provided daily leadership by coordinating a highly effective Aviation Safety Program that included safety stand-downs, command job hazard assessments, and developing Operational Risk Management (ORM) worksheets used by flight crews and maintenance personnel.
Aviation safety is not just about flying aircraft safely at NAVAIR Depot Jacksonville, but rather, encompassing the entire mindset of how we do business from the shop floor to the front office.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this team effort. Your support of the warfighter is world class,” Captain John Scanlan, Commanding Officer, NAVAIR Depot JAX said. “Your attention to detail while looking out for your teammate is evident by our yearly aviation mishap-free success.”
NAVAIR Depot Jacksonville looks forward to producing quality products for our service members deployed around the world, and ensuring they can answer every mission, every time, while maintaining a relentless focus on providing a safe working environment, and defect-free aircraft, engines, and components.
