Dual Mode Laser Guided Bomb Contract Award
Naval Air Systems Command has awarded an Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity fixed price contract to the Lockheed Martin Company, Archbald, Pennsylvania, for the qualification of a Dual Mode Laser Guided Bomb (DMLGB), to include production assets and support equipment.
The potential maximum contract value is $65,251,581 for the base year, and consists of a base and four option years. If all options are exercised and orders are placed at the maximum quantity, the contract has a potential value of $266,458,301.
The DMLGB will increase operational flexibility by providing a Global Positioning System /Inertial Navigation System capability in combination with a Laser Guided Bomb capability in a single weapon. The weapon would be employed on the F-A-18 A-D and AV-8B.
Captain David Decoy Dunaway, Program Manager for Precision Strike Weapons (PMA-201) commented, “this capability will reduce the number of sorties needed to destroy intended targets, while providing the warfighter with increased flexibility in adverse weather against time sensitive targets.”
This effort was undertaken in response to an Urgent Universal Needs Statement, submitted by the Headquarters Marine Corps. Based on feedback from the Combatant Commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan directly supporting the Global War on Terrorism, it has been determined that this capability is urgently needed to provide the warfighter with improved responsiveness and flexibility.
The Strike Weapons program office is managed by the Program Executive Office, Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation, located at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland.
